Her early childhood achievements as a violinist were the first demonstration of Carolyn's unusual ability to focus and concentrate in order to reach a goal--even before the age of 10.

Similar discipline is what enabled Carolyn to obtain her B.A. at UC Berkeley, and master four languages (Japanese, Italian and French in addition to English) as a teenager and later as a student living abroad.
